Choosing your first interchangeable-lens camera

A practical way to compare sensor formats, mounts, controls and the rest of the kit you will actually carry.

01

Start with the work, not the badge

List the situations you shoot most often: travel, family, street, studio, sport, video or a mix. The right camera is the one whose size, autofocus, battery life and controls suit those situations. A larger body is not automatically better if it stays at home.

02

Choose a sensor and mount together

Sensor size affects field of view, depth of field and the size of compatible lenses. The mount determines which lenses, flashes and adapters can be used. Treat the body and lens system as one decision so an attractive camera does not leave you with an expensive, unsuitable kit.

03

Budget for the complete kit

Leave room for a lens, spare battery, memory card, protection and a way to carry the equipment. For video, add audio, lighting, power and storage to the first estimate. A balanced kit usually produces better results than spending the whole budget on the body.

04

Check the details before checkout

Confirm the exact model, regional warranty, included accessories, power requirements and stock status. If you are adapting an existing lens, send us the body and lens model so we can check the combination before you order.
