Build a dependable video kit

A system-first checklist covering image, sound, light, power and the small accessories that keep a shoot moving.

01

Image is only one part of the kit

Choose a camera for the resolution, frame rates, codecs, crop behaviour and recording limits you actually need. A camera with a useful workflow is more valuable than a headline specification you will never use.

02

Treat audio as a first-class component

For interviews and dialogue, plan the microphone, mounting, cable or wireless link and monitoring before choosing a cage. Record a test in the real environment; a clean microphone close to the source often matters more than the camera upgrade.

03

Plan light, power and media

Confirm light modifiers, stands, battery type, charging, media capacity and backup workflow. Check whether accessories use the same voltage, connector and mounting standard as the rest of the kit.

04

Build for the next shoot

Leave a little capacity for a second camera angle, a longer day or a different location. A compatible tripod plate, storage card and spare battery can save a production more often than a new camera body.
